AMD's upcoming high-end processors, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D, will deliver gaming performance comparable to the current Ryzen 7 9800X3D, according to AMD Product and Business Development Manager Martijn Boonstra.
Speaking to VideoGamer, Boonstra explained that while some games might perform slightly better or worse on the new chips, the overall gaming experience remains on par with the 8-core 9800X3D.
The new processors pack more processing power, with the 9900X3D featuring 12 cores and the 9950X3D boasting 16 cores. However, this additional horsepower may only benefit select games optimized for multi-core processing, as most current titles don't utilize more than eight cores.
Where these processors truly shine is in productivity applications. AMD reports the Ryzen 9 9950X3D outperforms Intel's Core Ultra 9 285K by approximately 10% in multi-threaded creative applications like Photoshop. This positions the new chips as attractive options for content creators who also enjoy gaming.
While AMD hasn't officially announced pricing, industry analysts expect the 9900X3D to retail around $629 and the 9950X3D at approximately $729, based on previous generation pricing patterns. Both processors are scheduled for release this January.
The launch of these new processors could help address availability issues that have plagued the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. AMD cautions consumers to remain vigilant against counterfeit listings and processors while waiting for the official release.
