In a stunning display of market dominance, AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor has claimed the top spot in CPU sales, with Intel failing to secure even a single position in the top 10 rankings. Recent data from German retailer Mindfactory reveals AMD's overwhelming success in the final week of December 2024.
The sales figures for Week 52 (December 23-29) paint a clear picture: AMD moved an impressive 4,260 CPU units, while Intel managed just 320. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D led the charge with over 1,600 units sold, despite ongoing availability constraints at retailers.
Following the flagship 9800X3D, AMD's 7600X3D and 5700X3D secured the second and third positions, selling 420 and 350 units respectively. Intel's best performer, the Core Ultra 7 265KF, moved a mere 20 units during the same period.
This success comes after Intel's challenging year, marked by issues with their 13th and 14th-generation processors and a lukewarm reception to their Core Ultra 200S series launch. Meanwhile, AMD's 9800X3D has become particularly popular among gaming enthusiasts, consistently selling out minutes after restocks.
Industry analysts note that the 9800X3D's sales numbers could have been even higher if not for persistent stock limitations. The processor's popularity has created a situation where demand consistently outpaces supply, making it difficult for consumers to purchase the chip even months after its release.
AMD's complete dominance of the top 10 sales positions represents a major shift in the CPU market landscape, highlighting the company's strong performance throughout 2024 and suggesting a potential continuation of this trend into the new year.
