AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card shows impressive performance gains over its predecessor, according to leaked benchmarks from a recent press briefing. The new GPU delivers up to 42% better performance at 4K resolution compared to the Radeon RX 7900 GRE across a suite of over 30 games.

The performance improvements are particularly striking in ray-tracing enabled titles. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman 3 see massive gains of up to 168% over the previous generation, highlighting the architectural advances in AMD's new RDNA 4 design.

At 1440p resolution, the RX 9070 XT maintains a strong 38% lead over the 7900 GRE. Popular titles including F1 24 and Dying Light 2 demonstrate consistent performance jumps between 56% and 66%.

The non-XT variant of the RX 9070 also shows notable improvements, offering 20% better performance at 1440p and 21% at 4K compared to the 7900 GRE. The performance gap between the XT and non-XT models stands at roughly 16% at 1440p and 18% at 4K resolutions.

AMD's benchmark approach focuses on native rendering performance without relying on upscaling technologies like frame generation, which sets it apart from competitor NVIDIA's marketing strategy.

While AMD did not provide comparisons against NVIDIA's RTX 5070 Ti or their own flagship 7900 XTX, the leaked numbers suggest strong potential for the new 9070 series in the high-performance gaming market.

Full details about the Radeon RX 9070 series will be revealed during AMD's official presentation on February 28.
