Apple Plans Revolutionary Liquid Metal Hinges for Upcoming Foldable iPhone

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple plans to incorporate liquid metal hinges in its upcoming foldable iPhone, marking a major innovation in foldable device technology.

The tech giant has selected liquid metal, produced through die-casting, as a key material to address common challenges faced by foldable smartphones. This strategic choice aims to improve screen flatness and minimize the visible creasing that typically affects folding displays.

While Apple has previously used liquid metal in smaller components like SIM ejector pins, the foldable iPhone represents the company's first major application of this material in a critical mechanical component. Dongguan EonTec will serve as the exclusive supplier for the liquid metal components.

The device is expected to feature a book-style design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, with a 7.8-inch main display when unfolded and a 5.5-inch cover display. Technical specifications may include two rear cameras, a front-facing camera, and Touch ID integrated into the power button.

According to Kuo's analysis, the foldable iPhone could achieve remarkable thinness - just 4.5mm when unfolded and between 9mm and 9.5mm when closed. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, suggesting a possible market release in late 2026 or early 2027.

This innovative use of liquid metal technology demonstrates Apple's commitment to addressing durability concerns in the foldable device market, potentially setting new standards for the industry.
