Apple has unveiled its latest macOS Sequoia 15.1 public beta, offering non-developers an opportunity to explore the software before its official launch on October 28. This release follows closely on the heels of the seventh beta version provided to developers just a day earlier.
Participants in Apple's beta testing program can now access the macOS Sequoia 15.1 update. The process is straightforward: open the Settings app, navigate to the Software Update section, and select the Public Beta option.
The standout feature of this release is the introduction of Apple Intelligence capabilities. While not all AI features are present in this beta, users can expect to find Writing Tools, Siri improvements, summary functions, AI-enhanced Focus modes, and smart replies. However, these advanced features are limited to specific devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 models, and M-series Macs and iPads.
Writing Tools, a notable addition, offers spell-checking, grammar correction, tone adjustment, and text summarization capabilities wherever text can be edited. Siri has undergone a significant overhaul, featuring a new design with a subtle display glow. The introduction of Type to Siri allows users to interact with the assistant without speaking, and Siri can now maintain context between requests and adapt to verbal stumbles.
Safari now boasts article summarization abilities, while a new Reduce Interruptions Focus Mode intelligently filters notifications. The Messages and Mail apps benefit from smart replies, with Mail also prioritizing time-sensitive messages.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the new Memory Movie feature in Photos, which creates slideshows based on text descriptions. Additionally, a Clean Up tool helps remove unwanted objects from images.
While this beta introduces numerous AI-powered features, some anticipated functions like Image Playground, Genmoji, and certain Siri enhancements are not yet implemented. As development progresses, users can look forward to even more innovative features in future updates.
