Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman predicts that Apple will release new MacBook Air models powered by the M4 chip by March 2025, following a similar timeline to last year's M3 MacBook Air launch.
The upcoming lineup is expected to include both 13-inch and 15-inch variants. While the exact release date remains uncertain, Gurman recently suggested the launch could happen "within weeks."
Evidence of these new models first emerged in December 2024 through Apple's macOS Sequoia 15.2 update, which contained files referencing "MacBook Air (13-inch, M4, 2025)" and "MacBook Air (15-inch, M4, 2025)" under the identifiers "Mac16,12" and "Mac16,13."
Initial speculation pointed to the M4 MacBook Air being Apple's first hardware release of 2025. However, the iPhone SE 4, scheduled for announcement this Wednesday, is now expected to take that position.
Adding weight to the imminent release timeline, current M3 MacBook Air inventory levels are reportedly diminishing across retailers, often a telltale sign of upcoming product refreshes.
The new M4-powered MacBook Air models will succeed the current M3 versions, which were introduced in March 2024. Apple plans to release updated MacBook Air models featuring the new M4 chip ahead of other anticipated products in early 2025, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
