Chinese technology giant BYD has unveiled its first residential energy storage solution, the Battery-Box HVE system, marking the company's entry into the home energy storage market.

The new storage system comes in two capacity options - 4.29 kWh and 6.45 kWh - and can be paired with either single-phase or three-phase inverters. The modular design allows up to four modules to be combined in a single tower, reaching a maximum capacity of 23.6 kWh. For larger installations, three towers can be connected in parallel to achieve a total storage capacity of 70.92 kWh.

The compact units are designed for easy installation, with the smaller 4.29 kWh model weighing 42.1 kg and the larger 6.45 kWh version at 61.1 kg. Both models feature robust weather protection with IP65-rated construction.

BYD offers two inverter options with the system. The single-phase Power-Box SH delivers 3-6 kW output with 97.7% efficiency, while the three-phase Power-Box TH provides 5-15 kW output and achieves 98.2% efficiency. The three-phase model includes backup functionality with fast switching under 10 milliseconds.

The company backs the complete system with a 15-year warranty. European customers can purchase the Battery-Box HVE starting end of June 2024, with BYD planning to introduce additional products for the European market in the second quarter of 2025.

This launch represents BYD's strategic expansion into residential energy storage solutions, building on their expertise in battery technology and electric vehicles.
