Blackmagic Design has released DaVinci Resolve 19.1, bringing spatial video editing capabilities to Mac users ahead of similar features expected in Final Cut Pro. The latest version, available on Mac, enables users to edit and produce immersive spatial videos specifically designed for the Apple Vision Pro headset.
The update introduces support for both spatial photo decoding and MV HEVC spatial video encoding on Mac platforms. This makes DaVinci Resolve one of the first major video editing applications to offer comprehensive spatial video support.
Users can easily import spatial videos and photos captured on iPhone 15 Pro devices directly into their DaVinci Resolve timeline. The encoding process involves selecting Quicktime as the output format with H.265 codec, configuring stereoscopic 3D settings for both eyes, and choosing MV-HEVC from available options.
The workflow remains familiar to editors, maintaining similarity with traditional 2D video editing. Testing has shown that standard editing techniques, such as applying zoom effects through keyframes, translate seamlessly to spatial format when viewed on Apple Vision Pro. Content can be quickly shared to the Vision Pro headset via AirDrop for immediate playback with full spatial support.
Both the standard DaVinci Resolve 19.1 and the Studio version include these spatial video capabilities. The software also supports spatial photo integration, allowing editors to combine still images and video clips in their projects while maintaining dimensional qualities.
This release positions DaVinci Resolve as a leading solution for creators working with spatial content for Apple Vision Pro. The timing aligns with growing interest in spatial video creation, as Apple prepares to expand support across its professional applications.
