Google has revealed plans to acquire Israeli cloud security company Wiz for $32 billion, marking the largest-ever acquisition of an Israeli technology firm. The deal, which requires regulatory approval, will integrate Wiz into Google Cloud while maintaining the company's ability to serve other major cloud platforms.

Founded by four veterans of Unit 8200 - Israel's elite military intelligence division - Wiz provides cloud computing security services to organizations ranging from startups to government agencies. The company's founders Yinon Costica, Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, and Roy Reznik built Wiz after their service in Unit 8200, which handles signals intelligence and cybersecurity operations for the Israeli military.

The acquisition represents a major financial boost for Israel's economy, which has faced challenges amid regional conflicts. The deal is expected to generate approximately $4 billion in tax revenue for the Israeli government, equivalent to 0.6% of GDP. Additionally, Wiz's 1,800 employees will receive collective benefits worth $1.5 billion.

This move deepens existing ties between Silicon Valley and Israel's military-intelligence sector. Industry observers note that many Israeli tech startups founded by Unit 8200 veterans have been acquired by U.S. technology companies. Recent months have seen several such acquisitions, including Palo Alto Networks' nearly $1 billion purchase of Dig Security and Talon CyberSecurity.

The announcement follows Google's other recent investments in Israel, including plans to lease extensive office space in Tel Aviv for $300 million over ten years. The company also maintains a cloud services contract with the Israeli government through Project Nimbus, valued at $1.2 billion.

Some industry experts have raised concerns about potential security implications, given the founders' intelligence backgrounds and the sensitive nature of cloud security services. However, Google maintains that Wiz's security solutions will benefit organizations across different cloud platforms while meeting regulatory requirements.

The acquisition awaits regulatory approval before completion. If approved, it would represent a landmark deal in the growing relationship between U.S. technology giants and Israel's cybersecurity sector.
