Apple's latest mobile operating system, iOS 18, has reached a 68% adoption rate across all compatible iPhone devices since its public release in September 2024, according to new data released by Apple on Friday.

The adoption rate is even higher among newer devices, with 78% of iPhones released in the past four years running iOS 18. For these recent models, 19% are operating on iOS 17, while only 5% use earlier versions.

Looking at the overall iPhone ecosystem, 19% of devices continue to run iOS 17, with 13% utilizing older iOS versions. These numbers closely mirror the adoption patterns observed with iOS 17's release in 2024.

A notable feature of iOS 18 is Apple Intelligence, the company's approach to generative AI, which was introduced with the 18.1 update. While the system has received additional capabilities through version 18.2, it has faced some challenges, including a required rollback of News notification summaries.

In contrast to iPhone figures, iPad adoption rates for the latest operating system remain lower. Current data shows iPadOS 18 running on 53% of all iPads, increasing to 63% for tablets released within the last four years.

The current public version of iOS 18 stands at 18.2.1, representing Apple's ongoing commitment to system updates and improvements since the initial release.
