Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro lineup may receive a major camera upgrade, with both Pro models reportedly featuring a complete set of 48-megapixel rear cameras - a first for the iPhone series.
According to recent reports from industry insiders, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be equipped with three 48MP cameras: a Fusion main lens, an Ultra Wide lens, and an upgraded Tetraprism telephoto lens. This marks a notable improvement from the current 12MP telephoto camera found in iPhone 16 Pro models.
The main and telephoto cameras are expected to utilize hybrid glass-plastic lens technology. Additionally, both Pro models will reportedly feature an enhanced 24MP front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of the current 12MP selfie camera.
Multiple industry analysts have weighed in on these developments. Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted the iPhone 17 Pro Max would receive an upgraded 48MP Tetraprism camera, requiring newly designed prisms with a shorter form factor to maintain a sleek profile.
The front camera upgrade to 24MP has been independently corroborated by analyst Jeff Pu, who suggests this enhancement will extend across all iPhone 17 models. These improvements are expected to boost image quality and low-light performance substantially.
The iPhone 17 series is anticipated to launch in September 2025, featuring a redesigned lineup that may include a new "iPhone 17 Air" model. The Pro versions are rumored to showcase an innovative design combining aluminum and glass elements, along with a distinctive rectangular camera module.
