Toshiba has announced it will not release its new 24TB N300 and N300 Pro hard disk drives in mainland Europe, citing insufficient market demand in the region. The high-capacity drives will only be available in the United States, Asia, and the United Kingdom.
According to a statement published by ComputerBase, Toshiba observes "manageable demand" for 24TB NAS drives in Europe, leading to their decision to withhold these models. The company indicates it will continue monitoring market trends and may revise this strategy based on future assessments.
This selective distribution approach stands in contrast to competitors Seagate and Western Digital, who currently offer their 24TB and 26TB NAS drives throughout Europe, albeit at premium prices.
Industry analysts suggest Toshiba's strategy may be driven by factors beyond stated market demand. The company could be prioritizing the American market, where demand for high-capacity drives remains strong. Another potential factor is the upcoming implementation of country-specific tariffs in July, which may have prompted Toshiba to increase its U.S. inventory beforehand.
While Toshiba's enterprise-focused MG11-series 24TB drives remain available across all regions, including Europe, the company's decision to limit its consumer NAS drives marks a departure from typical industry distribution patterns.
The move raises questions about Toshiba's broader market strategy, though the company has not provided detailed explanations beyond their initial statement regarding European demand levels.
