Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air is set to become the thinnest iPhone ever made, according to a new report from South Korea's Sisa Journal. The device will measure just 6.25mm in thickness, making it approximately 20% slimmer than the current iPhone 16 models.
The iPhone 17 Air will replace the Plus model in Apple's lineup and is expected to maintain similar pricing, starting at around $899 in the United States. This strategic pricing decision comes as the Plus models have historically shown weaker sales performance compared to other iPhone variants.
In terms of specifications, the device is reported to feature a 6.6-inch display, the A19 chip, and a Dynamic Island. The phone will come equipped with 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence features. However, to achieve its ultra-thin profile, the device will make some compromises compared to the Pro models, including a single rear camera setup.
The report also reveals that Samsung is developing a competing ultra-thin smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Slim, with a thickness in the mid-6mm range. Unlike the iPhone 17 Air, Samsung's offering is expected to include a multi-lens camera system.
Apple's decision to introduce the Air model represents a shift in strategy, targeting users who prioritize aesthetics and portability. The iPhone 17 Air is scheduled for release alongside other iPhone 17 models in September 2025.
The move toward ultra-thin designs marks a new trend in the premium smartphone market, with both major manufacturers racing to offer sleeker devices while maintaining performance capabilities.
