X, formerly known as Twitter, has dramatically increased the price of its Premium+ subscription plan following the release of xAI's latest artificial intelligence model, Grok 3. The monthly subscription cost has jumped to nearly $50, more than double its previous price of $22.

The price hike comes just hours after Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, unveiled Grok 3, which they claim surpasses competitors like OpenAI and DeepSeek in early testing across math, science, and coding benchmarks.

Premium+ subscribers will gain access to select Grok 3 features, including "deep search" and "reasoning" capabilities. However, some advanced functions will only be available through a separate SuperGrok subscription via the Grok app.

The new pricing structure appears inconsistent across X's platform. While the support page lists Premium+ at $50 monthly or $350 annually, users report seeing varying prices during signup - from $39.83 to $48.40 monthly, with annual plans ranging from $395 to $477.95.

This marks the second Premium+ price increase in recent months, following December's rise from $16 to $22 monthly. The latest hike coincides with xAI's expansion of its computing infrastructure, having doubled its GPU cluster to train Grok 3.

During Grok 3's launch demonstration, streamed on X, Musk described the model as being "an order of magnitude more capable than Grok 2" while noting it remains in beta testing with daily improvements planned.

The rollout of Grok 3 features begins Tuesday for U.S.-based Premium+ subscribers, marking xAI's latest move in the increasingly competitive AI market that includes established players like OpenAI's ChatGPT and emerging competitors such as China's DeepSeek.
