Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform, has unveiled a new custom feed dedicated to vertical video content, joining the growing trend of platforms adapting to short-form video formats.
The new feature, accessible through the Explore tab in Bluesky's mobile app, allows users to scroll through trending videos with a familiar vertical swipe gesture. Users can personalize their experience by pinning the video feed to their home screen or adding it to their curated feed list.
"We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video! Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize," the company announced in a recent post.
The launch comes at a strategic time as TikTok faces service disruptions in the United States. Bluesky has experienced substantial growth during this period, reaching over 28 million users over the weekend.
The platform also acknowledged several developers building TikTok alternatives on its AT Protocol, including Tik.Blue, Skylight.Social, and Bluescreen.Blue, though these projects remain in early testing phases.
This move reflects a broader industry shift, with other major platforms making similar adjustments. X (formerly Twitter) has launched its own vertical video feed in the US, while Meta introduced a new video editing app called Edits to compete with ByteDance's CapCut.
Users who don't immediately see the new video feed feature are advised to restart their Bluesky app to access the update.
