Social networking platform Bluesky has revealed early plans for a premium subscription service called Bluesky+ through mockups published on GitHub. The potential offering could rival X's premium features while introducing new revenue streams for the growing platform.

According to interface mockups, Bluesky+ may include features like higher quality video uploads, profile customization options, custom app icons, inline post translations, post analytics, and bookmark folders. The preliminary pricing shows $8 monthly or $72 yearly, though the company emphasizes these details aren't final.

The discovery came from Bluesky user @saeri.xyz, whose post about the GitHub findings gained substantial engagement across the growing platform, which now boasts 24.7 million users. Bluesky software engineer Dan Abramov responded to temper expectations, noting that the mockup "doesn't necessarily match what will be released."

One notable potential feature is profile verification badges as part of the subscription package. This comes after Bluesky's recent discussions about implementing verification differently than competitors X and Meta due to the platform's open nature.

The subscription model was first mentioned during Bluesky's $15 million Series A announcement in October. However, subscriptions aren't the only monetization avenue being explored. CEO Jay Graber has indicated the company is also considering selling domain names, creating a marketplace for algorithms, and potentially introducing advertising.

While the community actively discusses these potential features, with mixed reactions to the proposed paid offerings, Bluesky maintains that all details remain in development. The final feature set and launch timeline will be announced once more work is completed.
