Gaming accessory manufacturer Genki has unveiled a detailed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, offering the public its first close look at Nintendo's highly anticipated next-generation console.
The mockup, displayed behind closed doors at the tech event, showcases several design changes from the original Switch. Most notably, the Joy-Con controllers now feature a magnetic attachment system, replacing the previous sliding rail mechanism. The right Joy-Con reportedly includes an additional unmarked button, speculated to be a new "C button" with yet-unknown functionality.
According to German tech outlet Netzwelt, the dummy unit appears larger than its predecessor and maintains what Genki claims are the "exact dimensions" of the upcoming console. The company is already developing various accessories, including controllers and a docking station, in preparation for the system's launch.
Technical specifications revealed through leaked documentation suggest the Switch 2 will utilize a more powerful 60W charging system through its dock, making current Switch charging cables incompatible with the new hardware.
While Genki maintains that their display unit is a replica, the company claims to have access to an actual Nintendo Switch 2 console. Reports from French outlet Numerama indicate an April launch window for the system, though Nintendo has only confirmed they will share official news by the end of March.
The presence of such detailed mockups at a major industry event like CES suggests that accessory manufacturers are ramping up production for the console's imminent release. However, Nintendo has yet to make any official announcements regarding the Switch 2's features, pricing, or release date.
